JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to perform the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, system, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
* Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, an inspection of onboard emergency equipment.
* Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft.
* Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.
* Performs the full range of repair and testing of aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces.
* Using a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet, and slippery ramps and work-stands in temperature and humidity extremes. Work areas may be drafty, noisy and have toxic fumes present. Irritants such as aircraft fluids, dirt, grease, dust, paint and solvents may be present. Exposure to cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains, and broken toes exists. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries times weighing 50 pounds and over. Requirements Conditions of employment
* National Guard Membership is required.
* Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
* Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
* Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
* Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
* Direct Deposit is mandatory.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
* Must possess a valid state drivers license. Qualifications GENERAL
EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED
EXPERIENCE:
Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following:
* Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.
* Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow.
* Experience demonstrating the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions.
* Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures.
* Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required.
* Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results.
* Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT:
