Purpose:

Operate machinery and assist with production line as needed. Responsible for housekeeping and safety in his/her work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain machinery.
  • Accurately record electronically or manually the actual usage of raw materials and chemicals used.
  • Assist in machine wash-ups, changes and daily machine cleaning after breaks or shutdowns including physical moving, bending and/or lifting during those procedures.
  • Assist in locating, transporting and handling of raw materials and/or chemicals, including opening and staging fiber.
  • Comply with all Lock-Out, Tag Out and Confined Space procedures.
  • Identify and immediately report any unsafe act, condition or potential hazard to Supervisor or responsible personnel.
  • Locate, transport by using a powered lift truck and track ordered raw materials and/or chemicals from inventory by lot or r for use in pulp and/or chemical formulations.
  • Accept direction from multiple sources of authority.
  • Prepare chemical formulations in accordance with written instructions.
  • Work in sequence using many components with high degree of accuracy.
  • Physically transport and handle chemicals and raw materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb catwalks, work around machinery with hot and slippery surfaces.
  • Observe conditions and quarantine if necessary any unacceptable or questionable raw materials and/or chemicals and communicate to supervisor as necessary.
  • Comply with safety rules and the worksite safety plan.
  • Comply with environmental guidelines, and federal and state-mandated RCRA waste handling and recycling procedures.
  • This position is additionally responsible as part of the manufacturing flexibility program to cross-train and be fully qualified to work in at least one other alternate position within the manufacturing operation.
  • Education, Technical Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements
    • High school diploma
    • Basic Math skills
    • Read and write English
    • 3 months – 1 year work experience in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred.
    • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Must be able to upgrade job skills through participation in periodic training programs as available.
    • Must be physically and mentally able to perform similar job functions in other areas.
    • Must be computer literate.
    • Understand and comply with environmental guidelines.
    • Must be able to make minor repairs to equipment when instructed by supervision.
    • Must have knowledge of Ahlstrom Information Security policies and be responsible for ensuring information security when handling information and maintaining or using information systems or information networks.
    Physical Demands
    • Must be able to handle up to 50 lbs. and complete tasks that require difficult positioning.
    • Must constantly be alert.
    • Must be able to work in severely fluctuating temperatures.
    • Vision tested minimum requirements is corrected to 20/40 far vision and 20/30 near vision.
    • Exposure to dust, vibration, chemical, temperature variation and sharp cutting equipment.
    • Protective equipment is required.
    • Ability to work carefully around potentially dangerous machinery.
    • Must be physically able to operate a lift truck.
    • Perform other jobs as instructed by supervision.

    Temporary assignments to alternate workstations may be required to meet production demand.
