  • Reports to Operations Manager.
  • Responsible for the shift-to-shift safe operations, production performance, and environmental performance of the power generation facility.
  • Responsible for safe start up and, when required, safe shutdown of the power generation facility in accordance with equipment vendor recommendations and guidelines, both in normal and emergency situations.
  • Ensure performance monitoring is carried out, and plant performance is optimized.
  • Responsible for EHS permit compliance for the power generation facility.
  • Ensure the CMMS is accurate and up to date for preventative work orders and ensure that work order back log is kept to a minimum.
  • Co-ordinate safety with regards to shift work activities, LOTO for release of plant equipment for maintenance.
  • Ensure that Weekly and Monthly Safety Meetings for the Department are carried out and recorded.
  • Document plant performance with shift logs, operational logs, defect reporting, fault reporting and writing, revision and review of operational procedures.
  • Co-ordinate Plant Operators and Control Room Operators activities in conjunction with smooth and safe operations of the power generation facility.
  • Review Plant Operators and Control Room Operator log sheets to ensure that plant equipment is operating in compliance with vendor recommendations and guidelines, and ensure corrective action is taken on non-compliance items.
  • Training of staff in Control Room and Plant Operator operations.
  • Help develop a plant maintenance staff to perform safely, productively and reliably to meet the safety and financial objectives of the Owners.
  • Responsible for the supervision of all plant maintenance activities to best effect to achieve safety, generation and environmental performance of the power station.
  • Assist in ordering and inventorying parts and materials.
  • Assist Operations Manager as required with reports about plant performance and problems.
  • Liaise with vendors and contractors.
  • Coordinate and plan planned and unplanned outages.
  • Perform other work as directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Ability to get certified to perform high voltage switching.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School, Vocational Training (or equivalent)
  • 5 years in steam power generation operations.
  • 3 years in control room.
  • Knowledge and experience of power generation process, permit and safety systems, HV switching and switch gear, steam cycle chemistry, performance monitoring, DCS control systems (WDPF system preferred, but not required), reading technical drawings, computers and computer applications.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and motivational skills with a flexible, enthusiastic and committed attitude to work.
  • Ability to train others
  • Fluent to comprehend, speak, read and write English
