We are recruiting for a Secretary 2 to cover the Departments of Economics and Finance/Accounting and Business Information Systems on our beautiful campus located in Willimantic, CT. Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) is one of the State of Connecticut institutions of higher learning and the state's designated public liberal arts university. This department supports student learning in the development of technology skills, business knowledge, and competency in leadership, analytical thinking, business intelligence, business data analysis, project management, and teamwork.

Nature of Work

In a state agency this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of secretarial support functions requiring an understanding of organizational policies and procedures.

Examples of Duties
  • TYPING:
    • Use computers, tablets, and other electronic equipment to format and type correspondence, reports, bills, drafts, etc., from rough drafts, transcription, dictated notes.
    • Proofread for content.
    • Apply knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • FILING:
    • Design office filing systems.
    • Organize and maintain files, including confidential files.
    • Maintain, update, and review reference materials and manuals.
  • CORRESPONDENCE:
    • Compose complex letters and/or memoranda for own or supervisor's signature.
  • REPORT WRITING:
    • Compile information from various sources and prepare narrative or statistical reports, exercising judgment in item selection.
  • INTERPERSONAL:
    • Greet and direct visitors; answer phones and screen calls; advise callers on policy and procedures.
    • Coordinate with others inside and outside the organization on non-routine matters.
  • PROCESSING:
    • Screen letters, memos, reports, and other materials to determine required action.
    • Make recommendations to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • SECRETARY:
    • Arrange and coordinate meetings, including space, equipment.
    • Research, assemble, and coordinate meeting materials.
    • Write minutes from rough draft or take notes.
    • Prepare expense accounts and make travel arrangements.
  • OFFICE MANAGEMENT:
    • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment.
