Diesel Technician

Overview

Immediately hiring a permanent full-time senior level diesel technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in Winchester, Virginia.

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Works unsupervised on most tasks
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine the nature of the complaint
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation
• Works in accordance with all applicable safety, DOT, MOT, and corporate guidelines
• Acts as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
• Accesses and uses internal and external maintenance documents
• Supports operations as needed (e.g., Service Island support)
• Completes OEM On-Line diagnostic software courses as required by location

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Vocational or technical certification or post-secondary degree (preferred)
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines
• Routine preventative maintenance and basic diagnostics including AC and electrical systems
• Three (3) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
• CDL CLASS A (preferred) and other location-specific certifications as required
• Minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment
• Knowledge of computer skills (PC, Windows)
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test, a DOT physical, a Ryder road test, and a background check including motor vehicle records

• Hourly pay: $27.00 per hour
• Certification bonus of $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained (up to $700)
• Quarterly bonus: up to $500 per quarter
• Schedule:
  
  Monday through Friday, weekends off
• On-the-job paid training
