Public Safety Officer - Full Time - Night Shift

Public Safety Officer, under the supervision of the Public Safety Lieutenant, patrols assigned areas of the Medical Center to identify and respond to unsafe conditions and emergencies. The officer answers calls for service regarding unauthorized or illegal activity within the building or campus grounds. All officers respond to emergencies and assist with combative patients or visitors, fire alarms, infant/child abduction, active shooter, etc.

On a routine basis each officer performs inspections for hazards and unusual situations, locks or unlocks doors, handles trespassing issues, property receipt and issue, deceased patient transport, and tests and inspects public safety and safety equipment monthly.

Job Description

Must work well with all levels of individuals ranging from administrators and physicians to indigent patients. Think quickly on their feet, apply common sense, local, state and federal laws, VH policies, and be problem solvers. Exhibit customer excellence at all times and model the VH mission, vision and values. Document all rounds, write reports, submit reports by the end of the shift.

Proficient in the use of the RMS Public Safety incident computer-based system and the VH Risk Qual System. Communicate information confidentially and appropriately. Inspect fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and conduct or assist in environmental of care rounds as assigned. Test and check alarm system equipment, perform fire watches, monitor camera systems, infant abduction systems, fire alarm systems, medical gas alarms and generator alarms.

Investigate reports of loss and damage, report criminal activity, assist law enforcement within custody, respond to emergency calls consistently and with sound judgment.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience One year of previous law enforcement, public safety, college and/or fire department experience is preferred. Certification & Licensure

• Valid driver’s license required.
• BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association required.
• International Association for Healthcare Public Safety & Basics Exam within 1 year required.
• ASP baton, handcuff, OC foam spray and aggression management training within 6 months required.

• Must be able to work with individuals with special needs.
• Ability to display compassion and help others.
• Available for duty assignment at any Valley Health System facility.
• Ability to work on alternate shifts, flex schedule, holidays and weekends.
