Food Service Assistant

Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center is seeking a Food Service Assistant to lead operations in our large‑scale kitchen within the jail. In this critical role, you’ll supervise and mentor inmate workers while ensuring high standards of food safety, sanitation, and operational efficiency.

• 4‑day work week beginning at 6:00 AM

• Supervise inmate workers in meal preparation, dishwashing, sanitation, and kitchen maintenance.
• Review and implement daily menu instructions with accuracy and efficiency.
• Maintain food service security, including accountability for kitchen tools and security keys.
• Oversee proper storage of food items and inventory management, ensuring vendor pricing accuracy.
• Monitor and maintain documentation for inmate special diets and temporary medical diets.
• Coordinate cleaning and operator maintenance of all commercial kitchen equipment.
• Ensure the kitchen operates in compliance with local, state, and national food safety standards.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Current Serv Safe certification or able to obtain within 12 months of employment.
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have held it for at least 2 years.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to supervise inmate workers.
