Job Description
The Supervisor is a Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing patient scheduling, admissions, pre‑operative preparation, and recovery services at Valley Health Surgery Center (VHSC). This role provides leadership and operational support to the Pre‑Op/PACU team and Front Office Medical Assistants, ensuring high‑quality patient outcomes through effective resource utilization, collaboration, and communication. The Supervisor supports leadership in maintaining cohesive and consistent workflows and communication across scheduling, admissions, and Pre‑Op/PACU functions.
The position is comprised of approximately 70% clinical support and 30% administrative responsibilities. Key responsibilities include collaborating with surgeons and their office staff regarding procedural scheduling and patient care, managing daily and monthly staffing schedules, and troubleshooting operational issues as they arise. The Supervisor also oversees frontline leadership reports, contributes to performance evaluations, and implements coaching and corrective actions as needed.

- Associates degree in Nursing is required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- 2-3 years’ experience in Pre‑Op/PACU is required.
- Current RN license or eligibility in the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact state.
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) – AHA approved is required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required.
- Skills in planning, organizing and managing complex functions and processes.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills through interventions with staff to provide quality patient outcomes required.
- Good insight and organizational skills to identify process improvement needs, develop and implement changes needed for process improvement.
- Ability to create a smooth‑running environment so patients move through the process with efficiency and on time.
- Ability to anticipate the needs of patients, staff and procedures, troubleshoot and resolve issues that impede efficiency or concerns of patient care.
- Ability to maintain emotional calmness during stressful situations.
- Communicate effectively and assertively when presented with conflict.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Understanding of human growth and development across life stages.
