Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Access Specialist to be the first point of contact for patients, families, and referral sources. This is a full-time position that has a required weekend rotation. This role ensures a smooth transition from referral to admission by verifying insurance benefits, gathering required documentation, and supporting timely scheduling. The Access Specialist plays a vital role in connecting patients with the care they need while providing excellent customer service and fostering strong communication across our care teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the initial contact for referrals, patients, and families.
  • Verify insurance coverage and coordinate benefits for Blue Ridge Care service lines.
  • Enter patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and ensure all documentation is complete.
  • Schedule initial provider appointments and assessment nurse visits.
  • Collect and analyze data to validate eligibility for hospice and palliative services.
  • Maintain timely communication with physicians, referral sources, and internal teams.
  • Support administrative volunteers and assist with medical record retrieval.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with the Perfect Phone Encounter process to ensure consistent, high-quality interactions.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher education preferred.
  • Previous healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
  • Customer service mindset with the ability to multitask and work independently.
