We are seeking a dedicated Access Specialist to be the first point of contact for patients, families, and referral sources. This is a full-time position that has a required weekend rotation. This role ensures a smooth transition from referral to admission by verifying insurance benefits, gathering required documentation, and supporting timely scheduling. The Access Specialist plays a vital role in connecting patients with the care they need while providing excellent customer service and fostering strong communication across our care teams.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the initial contact for referrals, patients, and families.
- Verify insurance coverage and coordinate benefits for Blue Ridge Care service lines.
- Enter patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and ensure all documentation is complete.
- Schedule initial provider appointments and assessment nurse visits.
- Collect and analyze data to validate eligibility for hospice and palliative services.
- Maintain timely communication with physicians, referral sources, and internal teams.
- Support administrative volunteers and assist with medical record retrieval.
- Demonstrate proficiency with the Perfect Phone Encounter process to ensure consistent, high-quality interactions.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher education preferred.
- Previous healthcare experience strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
- Customer service mindset with the ability to multitask and work independently.
