We are looking for a Controls Engineer to help us by providing design and support for instrumentation, PLC controls, and a variable frequency that drives all production lines. As a Trex Controls Engineer, you will be looked to as an innovator in the manufacturing process and expected to maximize the productivity and efficiency of our facilities. This role is a key member of our Process Engineering team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Safety
- Actively participate in site safety programs to ensure safe working conditions and eliminate workplace incidents.
- Provide oversight and ensure compliance with NFPA 70E standards.
- Serve as a visible and engaged contributor to the site safety culture.
- Controls Engineering
- Develop, modify, and implement PLC control changes in collaboration with process engineers and maintenance technicians.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation for electrical panels and PLC controls, including drawings, diagrams, manuals, and software backups.
- Follow and enforce a controlled PLC change management system to track and document all modifications.
- Support Capital engineering projects, including:
- Panel design
- Vendor Coordination and construction oversight
- PLC and HMI programming
- Equipment installation and startup
- Assist with PLC, drive, instrumentation, and electrical installations.
- Partner with maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve controls-related issues.
- Develop and review procedures to support routine PLC and electrical troubleshooting during off-hours.
- Provide off-shift troubleshooting support when necessary.
- Maintain vendor relationships and ensure controls, equipment, and spare parts inventory remain current and available.

EXPERIENCE
We are looking for leaders with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field, along with experience in controls design and programming (years of experience requirements are listed below). We want to hear from you if you have previous experience as a systems engineer or electrical engineer.
- Controls Engineer I: 0-1 years of controls design and programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Candidates with an associate degree, along with 3 years of controls design and programming experience in a manufacturing environment, will be considered.
Entry-level or early-career engineer.
Works under the guidance of senior engineers.
Focuses on execution, documentation, and troubleshooting support.
- Controls Engineer II: 2-4 years of controls design and programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Candidates with an associate degree, along with 5 years of controls design and programming experience in a manufacturing environment, will be considered.
Mid-level engineer with demonstrated experience in PLC programming and capital project support.
Works independently on most assignments.
Leads small-to-mid-size controls initiatives and mentors junior team members as needed.
- Controls Engineer III: 5-7 years of controls design and programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Candidates with an associate degree, along with 7 years of controls design and programming experience in a manufacturing environment, will be considered.
Senior-level engineer with extensive controls and project leadership experience.
Leads major capital projects and complex system integrations.
Serves as subject matter expert for PLC, drives, instrumentation, and controls strategy.
Drives continuous improvement and mentors junior engineers.

SALARY
- Controls Engineer I: Base Salary Range: $68,000 - $98,000 annually.
- Controls Engineer II: Base Salary Range: $82,000 - $112,000 annually.
- Controls Engineer III: Base Salary Range: $98,000 - $128,000 annually.
