Summary:
The Special Education Specialist assists the Director of Early Childhood and Special Education, Department staff, and other division administrators in creating, coordinating, and implementing special education regulatory activities and instructional programming for students with disabilities, including the direct implementation of the WPS Special Education Department strategic plan in key areas related to transition and community services. Master’s Degree or other specialist-level certification required.
Licensure in administration or other school leadership credentials preferred.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
- Supervises key activities and supports the implementation of the WPS Early Childhood & Special Education Department strategic plan.
- Creates and supervises comprehensive program support related to transition planning, including:
- Transition assessment
- Transition goal setting and services
- Collaboration with community agencies to facilitate student referrals and services
- Staff professional development
- Compliance monitoring
- State and Federal reporting
- Serves as the lead for the divisions I’m Determined initiative.
- Manages special education caseload for students placed in private and residential settings in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Serves as the division’s FAPT representative.
- Collaborates with school-based multidisciplinary teams and families to address individual student needs.
- Serves as a consultant to the division Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).
- Collaborates with the Director to evaluate programming and establish staff development focuses on an ongoing basis.
- Represents the WPS Special Education Department at the division, local, regional, and state levels.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned. The individual who has had teaching experience must have an acceptable endorsement for such teaching.
Salary:
Salary range for the school year is $82,500 - $127,048; additional stipend for a doctorate degree. Salary may be adjusted based on the school board budget.
