We are delighted to invite applications to join our innovative, leading stroke department based in Winchester. We have two full‑time posts available, but less than full‑time and flexible working applications will be considered.
We are a progressive forward‑thinking department with a strong ethos of learning, collaboration, and quality improvement. The Hampshire Hospitals Stroke team has been commended on various aspects of the service in recent years, especially the hyperacute pathway with some of the fastest scanning times in the country, and a thrombolysis rate that has improved to above 20% following participation in the national TASC initiative – greater than regional and national averages.
Mainduties of the job
- 24/7 stroke on‑call rota including thrombolysis and thrombectomy cases (1:6 may reduce to 1:7)
- HASU, Acute stroke unit and rehabilitation inpatient ward cover (Twyford ward 24 beds and Clarke ward 12 beds)
- Ad hoc cover of general medical patients on rehab ward
- Daily TIA
- Daily front‑door consultant presence working with an established advanced stroke practitioner team
- Support for extended non‑medical practitioners roles including supervision and mentoring
- Weekly neuroradiology MDT meetings
- Weekly stroke education programme
- Monthly Stroke M&M
- Support for our dedicated stroke research nurse team
- Regional ISDN representation and participation in regional thrombectomy meetings
The role will involve close collaboration with the advanced clinical stroke practitioner team, the SCAS paramedics, and the emergency department staff to enable rapid assessment and management of stroke patients, plus collaborative
