The Commercial Lending Officer is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of commercial loans while providing exceptional service to business clients. This role focuses on relationship management, credit analysis, and loan structuring. The Commercial Lending Officer must ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies while supporting the bank’s strategic goals for commercial lending.
Key Responsibilities:
- Loan Origination & Structuring:
- Originate loan relationships using centers of influence (COIs), networking events, and community engagement, in order to support and increase the Bank’s commercial loan portfolio.
- Identify client needs and align them with the bank’s lending and treasury solutions.
- Conduct consultative discussions to structure financing solutions tailored to client needs while adhering to underwriting standards.
- Collaborate with credit and product teams to deliver tailored solutions.
- Evaluate and structure commercial loan requests, including term loans, lines of credit, and real estate financing.
- Prepare and present credit proposals for approval in accordance with underwriting standards.
- Credit Analysis & Risk Management:
- Conduct thorough financial analysis of business clients, including property, business and global cash flows, market conditions, collateral valuation, and creditworthiness.
- Assess risks related to property type, location, and market trends; monitor portfolio performance proactively.
- Monitor loan performance and proactively manage risk within the portfolio.
- Work with Borrowers who become past due on their loan obligations to remedy the situation in a mutually beneficial manner.
- Relationship Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for business clients, providing guidance on lending solutions and banking products.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients to support retention and growth.
- Collection and initial review of customer financial statements for annual reviews.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure all loan documentation meets regulatory and internal compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to audit requirements.
- Work closely with the credit officer, commercial credit analyst, commercial loan assistant, and other internal teams to deliver timely and accurate lending solutions.
- Work closely with retail staff to support the cross-selling of non-lending products to enhance client relationships.
- Share market insights with management to inform product development and pricing strategies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of experience in commercial lending or related field with proven ability to originate quality relationships.
- Strong knowledge of credit analysis, loan structuring, and regulatory compliance to include formal credit underwriting training.
- Excellent communication, consultative selling skills, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in financial analysis tools, Microsoft Office software and banking specific software.
