Grader/Sorters are primarily responsible for grading and sorting incoming metal products according to factors such as appearance and quality to ensure correct processing and usage. Other responsibilities include general yard cleanup and other maintenance functions.

• Interpret and apply grading standards to incoming metal products to ensure proper processing.
• General yard cleanup and maintenance, including weed and brush control, sweeping, and related tasks.
• Perform basic sorting of scrap, metal, and debris in preparation for processing.
• Grease and perform general cleanup at the shear and/or shredder.
• Assist with repairs and maintenance as required at railroad areas.
• Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
• Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions to the proper supervisor for maintenance or repair.

• Carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to speak and understand English at a basic level.
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned.
• Experience in a scrap yard is preferred.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an automobile.
