The ELL Teacher is expected to evaluate, instruct, and improve English proficiency as well as serve as a resource to the school for English language concerns. Work is performed under the supervision of the Principal or Assistant Principal.
Essential Functions:

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
* Plan, prepare, and teach well developed lessons which inspire students, and promote enjoyment of learning in relation to the DESE Teacher Rubric.
* Effectively and appropriately differentiate instruction so as to meet all students' learning styles with an appreciation for students' learning differences.
* Select and sequence appropriate materials, resources, and approaches according to the course/content area and audience of learners based on ACCESS scores and language proficiency needs.
* Assess, track, and provide relevant and timely feedback on achievement (performance and growth) and developmental needs to students, academics, and other managers/colleagues.
* Write reports on students with clear formative comments and targets as to how to improve work by defined deadlines given, and provide regular estimated grades and feedback on assessments.
* Collaborate with classroom teachers for SEI instruction and strategies.
* Monitor FEL and Opt-out students as required by the state.
* Maintain all records in accordance with DESE state guidelines.
* Follow all DESE required guidelines for screening, assessing (ACCESS), notifications, monitoring and serving ELL students.
* Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and building administrators regarding student progress and needs.
* Maintain current lesson plans, assessment data (i.e., grades), and attendance records using a defined school-sanctioned electronic interface.
* Design, administer, and evaluate a range of formative and summative assessments as appropriate.
* Complete administrative tasks as defined and by set deadlines.
* Induct students appropriately to provide academic advice, counseling, educational guidance, and advisory support, including individual learning plans, as directed.
* Supervise students' attendance and behavior and follow up as appropriate, in accordance with the Student Handbook.
* Develop materials and resources, implement, support and/or lead in the production and improvement of curriculum planning as appropriate, and undertake other academic project work as directed.
* Ensure lessons are in line with planning and their respective objectives, and that segments of lessons are shared with students, as appropriate.
* Provide feedback on materials, courses, and lessons to academic and other managers/colleagues as requested.
* Utilize learning spaces and tools effectively.
* Attend academic, departmental, and school meetings required, and attend/deliver professional development sessions as directed..
* Adhere to standards and procedures detailed in the Employee Handbook.
* Address and respond to student issues/emergencies as needed.
* Participate in the evaluation process consistent with defined parameters.
* Encourage parent and community involvement; obtain information for parents when requested; promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
* Participate in professional development activities in and outside the district.
* Any other relative duties as assigned by the Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Masters Degree preferred;
* Valid Massachusetts Teaching License with certification in English as a Second Language; SEI Endorsement required.
* Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program
* Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
