Chemistry Lab Lead

Job Purpose: Supervise the chemistry laboratory, ensuring the accurate collection, analysis

and reporting of the chemistry results, and all activities associated with this function.

Job Content and Duties:

Collect samples of moisture residues from Quality Control and check against redried report to see that numbers are correct.

Composite and log samples in for analyses according to customer or company instructions.

Grind samples according to customer or company instructions.

File log sheets from lab, Quality Assurance and redried reports accordingly.

Prepare and send samples to customers according to customer instructions.

Prepare weekly moisture standards for company and customers which includes grinding, blending, placing in jars, making labels, keeping log sheet for each customer, package for mailing and getting in mail every Friday.

Analyze tobacco samples for required test according to document procedures.

Enter data in computer system and report results.

Ensure work area is cleaned daily.

Ensure equipment is working properly, calibrated, and well maintained.

Troubleshoot and repair testing equipment.

Be back-up to QA Lead, undertaking their duties as needed.

Other duties when assigned by Supervisor.

Adept in a laboratory/QC environment, with prior exposure to chemical handling and testing analysis.

Good written and verbal communication skills, with prior customer interaction.

Good administrative and/or clerical skills.

Education and Experience

Required:

Minimum High School diploma with some college preferred.

• Several years of professional experience, ideally within a test facility, laboratory or manufacturing/process environment
• Experience operating & maintaining analytical equipment.

1-2 years experience in Continuous Flow Analyzer a plus.
