Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Purpose
The Service Technician role is critical in how value is delivered to our Industrial customers who rely upon weighing as a critical control point in their businesses and operations. Our customers trust this position to perform preventative maintenance services, calibrations, service and repairs, and installations on industrial scales and other weighing equipment to support their safety, quality, compliance, and performance goals.

CIS supports virtually all industrial businesses and operations. These include a wide range of customer types, sizes, and industries that span Fortune 100 companies to individual owner/operators in the following industries:
Chemical formulation and processing, Food & Beverage, Discrete Manufacturing, OEM, Pharmaceutical, Pulp, Paper, Textiles, Raw & Precious Materials, Aggregate and Mining operations, Transportation & Logistics, and Utilities & Municipalities.
The weighing equipment we support ranges from Grams to Tons. It can be found in clean rooms, manufacturing facilities, foundry operations, all the way to heavy capacity vehicle and railroad weighing applications.
The majority of our work is performed at the customer’s location and often times, at the actual point of use by the customer/operator. We are requested To Serve our customers when they need us, which may include after hours, nights, and weekends. Carlton Scale Service Technicians are on-call and may be requested to support customer needs after hours and with little notice.
Our Service Technicians may be in a wide variety of environments, including various weather conditions, around powered and moving equipment, as well in processing of materials that may create hazardous conditions.
- Able to recognize safety hazards related to specific jobs and tasks and to proactively plan to remove or successfully mitigate risks in support of CIS and Customer Safety requirements.
- Successfully obtain required Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of date of hire; actively support all CDL maintenance requirements; drive safely and obey DOT guidelines at all times.
- Answer the bell - always be on-time, ready to serve, and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism at all times;
Proactively plan for every service order and request. - Performs calibrations and preventative maintenance duties on industrial scales and other weighing equipment; ensure all regulatory and quality requirements are supported (ex. Carlton Scale Industrial Standards, Customer-specified Standards, ISO, etc.).
- Actively listen to customer feedback and information to align on expectations and what will be required for success.
- Ensure clear communication when things do not go to plan to avoid surprises and uncertainty or if service work will be required to span multiple trips or time periods.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot customer equipment; ensure connections and integration points with other equipment are understood and whether or not we may need other support to understand root causes of issues (ex. Third party PLC controllers, other production equipment, material handling systems, etc.).
- Ensure all customer service level agreements/requirements are achieved to support their production goals.
- Ability to work overtime and on a rotating on-call schedule including nights and weekends based on customer demand.
- Support all workflow and Service Order (SO) data management requirements for CIS. This includes the use of all company provided tools, applications, and resources to manage the entire lifecycle of an SO and includes time keeping, service notes, customer signatures, and related details.
- Proactively discuss risks with customers and how they may provide opportunities to upgrade and convert existing equipment or to sell service contracts for preventative maintenance agreements with expanded service offerings or more frequent visits.
- Explore conversations with customers who are interested in modernizing and upgrading their equipment; leverage CIS Lead Management tool for efficient communication.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with sales to create long-lasting customer relationships and to proactively discuss values of repair v. replace options.
- Solicit referrals for new customers and direct this information to sales staff and service manager on a regular basis.
- Maintain all inventory and tools in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- High School diploma required;
Associates or higher degree in electronics, industrial maintenance, or related field work or experience is preferred. - Experience in the weighing industry is also preferred.
- Must pass drug and background checks to support all CIS & customer requirements.
- Capable and comfortable working in new locations, with new people, every day.
