Position Description
The Lead Expeditor is responsible for managing and expediting the timely delivery of materials, equipment, and services required for industrial construction projects. This role coordinates closely with procurement, vendors, logistics, engineering, and field construction teams to prevent delays, mitigate risks, and ensure materials arrive on site in accordance with project schedules, specifications, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all expediting activities for assigned industrial construction projects
- Develop and maintain detailed material tracking logs and expediting schedules
- Review purchase orders, vendor schedules, and contract requirements for delivery compliance
- Proactively follow up with vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors to ensure on-time production and shipment
- Identify potential supply chain risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Coordinate with engineering to resolve technical or documentation issues impacting fabrication or delivery
- Work with logistics providers to arrange shipping, customs clearance (if applicable), and site delivery
- Verify vendor documentation, including material test reports (MTRs), certifications, and inspection records
- Coordinate inspections, FATs, and third-party quality checks as required
- Communicate material status updates to project management and construction teams
- Support site teams by prioritizing critical-path materials and responding to field needs
- Lead or mentor junior expeditors and material coordinators
- Ensure compliance with project schedules, safety requirements, and quality standards
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in expediting or material management for industrial construction projects
- Strong understanding of industrial procurement, fabrication, and logistics processes
- Experience supporting large-scale projects (power plants, refineries, chemical plants, manufacturing facilities, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Proven experience working with vendors, fabricators, and freight forwarders
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in material tracking systems, spreadsheets, and ERP platforms
- Ability to travel to vendor shops and project sites as required
- EPC project experience
- Familiarity with QA/QC and inspection processes
- Experience leading expediting teams
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field is a plus.
- Combination of office, vendor shop, and construction site environments
- May require extended hours during critical project phases
- Travel dependent on project and vendor locations
