General Summary
Superintendents report to a Supervisor or the person designated by the Supervisor and are responsible for the management of assigned jobs and/or work orders to ensure they are being performed in accordance with existing company policies and procedures. They assist in the achievement of their division’s aims, goals and objectives while operating within company guidelines. Work consists of installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the commercial, industrial and residential electrical construction industry.
ResponsibilitiesMust be able to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy, perform a variety of duties which may change often. Must use reason and logic, perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately, see detail in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings, and picture flat drawings as 3-dimensional objects. Is directly responsible for work layout, leading and working along with a crew, and assuring that materials, tools, equipment and information are on the job site in the proper places, ahead of time.
Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and national and local codes.
Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follow diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that work is installed as required.
Observe functions of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
Repair faulty equipment or systems.
Personnel Responsibilities- Recommend or initiate personnel actions (promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures).
- Analyze and resolve work problems, and/or assist workers in solving work problems.
- May train new workers.
- Interpret company policies to workers.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assign duties.
- Monitor the work being performed and direct the crew.
- Monitor and control the assignment of foremen to projects.
- Complete required paperwork (time sheets, safety reports, accident reports, etc.).
- Requisition and inspect materials.
- May be required to do a re-estimate.
- Schedule the work according to the pace of the job and other trades.
- Monitor and control the Company’s established policies concerning the Company’s Substance Abuse Program (SAP), vehicle usage, Hazardous Communication Program (HCP) and Quality Assurance Program (QAP).
Current state driver’s license if required by job conditions; applicable federal, state and local licenses as required by job conditions or by the company.
CertificationsApplicable federal, state and local certifications as required by job conditions or by the company.
EducationHigh School Graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent Watson training.
ExperienceRequired or necessary experience and/or training to assure all aspects of position are performed efficiently and productively while operating in accordance with policies and procedures of the company.
Working Conditions- Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain and snow.
- Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
- Job requires employee to have required personal tools with him at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs).
- Work from all types of ladders (up to 14’) and carry or relocate up to 12’ step ladder unassisted.
- Employee’s personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder.
- Perform work at various heights, up to 90’ from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas.
- Work in restricted areas (switch gear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces and attics).
- Wear personal protective equipment as required in Safety Handbook.
- Able to work 40 hours per week, overtime as required, night shifts and out of town if needed.
