Job SummaryAssists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customers questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.
Responsibilities- Ring up sales using a cash register, collect monies, count change, and prepare receipts.
- Prepare and package purchased items; balance the cash drawer and run routine register print‑outs.
- Prepare and deliver bank deposits; maintain security and accountability of cash register funds and sales records.
- Process and maintain sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers; prepare routine sales reports.
- Maintain the neatness and security of the cash register area; keep forms, bags, etc. adequately stocked.
- Explain store policy and respond to customer questions regarding pricing and purchasing; ensure a pleasant experience.
- Assist customers donating items; direct them to loading/unloading area and haul donations to storage; provide tax receipts as needed.
- Place and arrange items in the store; rotate/rearrange stock; return items to proper location after customer handling.
- Answer the store telephone tactfully and courteously; provide directions and general information; schedule and record donation pick‑ups.
- Clean all display racks, shelves, floors, windows and mirrors; keep store clean and inviting.
- Open and close store doors according to the schedule.
- Assist in pricing and tagging items; assist in carrying purchased or donated items; participate in disaster relief projects; perform other related work as required.
- High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Knowledge of effective customer service techniques and basic mathematics.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements; read, write and communicate in English.
- Ability to operate a cash register, perform routine math computations and count change.
- Physical ability to perform frequent walking, standing, kneeling, squatting, and occasional sitting.
Work is performed in a normal store environment with minimal physical discomforts associated with weather changes.
