Overview
Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral in Wilmington, NC is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our oncology team. ECVR is a fast‑growing emergency and specialty provider expanding into medical oncology to deliver exceptional care for animals facing life‑altering cancer diagnoses.
Compensation & ScheduleCompensation: $20 – $35/hr, based on experience and licensure.
Schedule: Full‑Time, four 10‑hour shifts.
- Provide gentle and low‑stress handling of oncology patients, ensuring comfort and emotional support throughout visits and treatments.
- Monitor patient condition and behavior during exams, treatments, and recovery, reporting changes to the supervising veterinarian.
- Assist with patient intake, physical exams, and follow‑up appointments; coordinate client communication via phone and email with indirect supervision.
- Administer oral, injectable, and IV medications as prescribed.
- Prepare, administer, and properly dispose of chemotherapy agents according to hospital and safety protocols; excellent venipuncture skills are required for safe chemotherapy administration.
- Other duties as assigned.
- LVT certification preferred; VTS Oncology prioritized.
- At least 2 years of veterinary experience required; strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology required. Prior oncology experience with a strong understanding of chemotherapy safety and handling protocols preferred.
- Attention to detail, strong communication skills with both clients and team members, and a commitment to exceptional patient care.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) required; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
