Unit mission

The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center (SHC) is to provide student-centered affordable, quality health and preventive services to the students of UNCW. The SHC provides comprehensive medical services and a retail pharmacy, with a focus on student success and patient education. The Health Center aims to help students stay healthy to engage fully in the classroom.

Organization

The Division of Student Affairs offers student support, service, and educational programs accessible to all university community members. Staff are dedicated to programs that affect student development and promote quality of life inside and outside the classroom. The Division leads and communicates for students.

Position responsibilities

The Registered Nurse functions as a member of a clinical team in a fast-paced college health center. Responsibilities include obtaining medical information during check-in, educating patients, providing care and treatment per nursing practice and theory, administering immunizations and allergy shots, and performing basic laboratory tests. The nurse may lead the clinic when necessary and participates in triage rotations, supports laboratory services, processes referrals, assists with prior authorizations, and coordinates care with providers.

The nurse may draft forms for provider review and approval as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum education and experience
:
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience
:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school
  • Experience in a college health setting
  • Experience triaging patients
  • Experience administering allergy shots
  • Experience administering immunizations
  • Experience performing basic laboratory and point-of-care tests

Required certifications or licensure
:

  • RN license in North Carolina (NC Board of Nursing)
  • Current CPR certification required (within 3 months of hire)

FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)

Months per year: 12J (July-June)

Work days: Monday - Friday

Work hours: 8:00 – 5:00, with occasional late stay for patient care
