Overview
Criminal Intelligence Analysts are assigned to the Wilmington Police Department’s Situational Tactics & Intelligence Nexus Group (STING Center). The unit is a Real Time Crime Center and Intelligence Unit.
Responsibilities- Compile, analyze, evaluate, correlate, and disseminate criminal intelligence and case/event deconfliction information to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Disseminate summaries of analytical results and respond to fast-paced, stressful conditions that promote officer safety and deconfliction.
- Answer telephone calls from law enforcement officers and input data into law enforcement databases.
- Quickly search multiple data sets, recognize relevant information, and transmit information to appropriate agency members in a timely manner.
- Analyze criminal intelligence data from various sources, correlate new information with existing information, and generate investigative leads.
- Provide analytical summaries and conduct research of open sources (e.g., social media, video feeds, law enforcement databases); determine reliability and consolidate reports from other agencies to prepare and disseminate intelligence reports, hot sheets, data analyses, and written reports as needed.
- Collaborate with internal and external departments and agencies on mapping, charting, and analysis; assist with or develop intelligence briefings.
- Assist in the dissemination of information to law enforcement agencies, verbally and in writing; participate in oral presentations and briefings regarding findings, case progress, and research results.
- Respond to short-term analytical requests (e.g., driver’s license photos, criminal histories, subject backgrounds, next of kin information).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or closely related field.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year related experience in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting data. Prior experience as a Wilmington Police Department intern in the STING Center will be given equivalent experience credit.
- Other Requirements: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Driving and criminal history check required. Successful candidate will also complete a post-offer polygraph examination and pre-employment drug screen.

Working ConditionsThis position generally requires work indoors and requires continuous sitting for prolonged periods.
