Job Summary
Incumbents in this position are responsible for supporting the GIS and Database Administrator in the administration, maintenance, and operation of the organization's Geographic Information System (GIS) and SQL Server database environments. This position assists with system monitoring, routine maintenance, data integrations, and troubleshooting to ensure the availability, performance, and integrity of geospatial and enterprise data systems. This position is assigned to pay grade IT4.
EssentialJob Functions
- Assists the GIS and Database Administrator in maintaining the ArcGIS Enterprise environment, including ArcGIS Server, Portal, ArcGIS Data Store, ArcGIS Online, and desktop GIS applications such as ArcGIS Pro.
- Supports SQL Server environments by assisting with routine administration tasks including monitoring system health, validating backups, reviewing job status, and performing basic maintenance activities.
- Assists with the administration and maintenance of enterprise geodatabases and relational databases, including support for data integrity, access controls, and performance optimization activities.
- Supports ETL and data integration processes by assisting with the execution, monitoring, and troubleshooting of automated workflows using tools such such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Python, or similar technologies.
- Assists with the creation and maintenance of database objects such as views, stored procedures, indexes, and scheduled jobs under the guidance of the GIS and Database Administrator.
- Helps manage user access and permissions within GIS and databases, and other enterprise systems, including Asset Management, CMMS, ERP, and related operational platforms.
- Provides technical support and troubleshooting assistance for GIS services, database-related issues, and data service interruptions, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
- Assists with system documentation, including updating standard operating procedures, system diagrams, configuration records, and recovery documentation.
- Supports routine monitoring and auditing activities to ensure compliance with organizational IT Standards, cybersecurity policies, and data governance requirements.
- Collaborates with other IT staff and departments to support organizational data and system needs.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, GIS, or related course study.
- Two (2) to Three (3) years of professional experience in an IT role involving GIS, databases, or system administration, such as GIS Technician, GIS Analyst, or related position.
- Basic working knowledge of SQL Server, relational databases, and GIS platforms.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise components and desktop GIS applications is preferred.
- Experience with scripting or automation tools such a T-SQL, Power Shell, or Python is preferred but not required.
