Position DescriptionCriminal Intelligence Analysts are assigned to the Wilmington Police Department’s Situational Tactics & Intelligence Nexus Group (STING Center). The unit is a Real Time Crime Center and Intelligence Unit. Job duties include compiling, analyzing, evaluating, correlating, and disseminating criminal intelligence and case/event deconfliction information to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies; disseminating summaries of analytical results; working in sometimes fast-paced, stressful conditions that promote officer safety and deconfliction;
answering telephone calls from law enforcement officers; entering data into law enforcement databases. The analyst is required to quickly search multiple data sets, recognize relevant information, and transmit that information to appropriate agency members in a timely manner.
- Analyzes criminal intelligence data and information received from a variety of sources.
- Correlates new information with existing information to fill in information gaps and generate new investigative leads in a timely manner. Provides analytical summaries based on information collected and analyzed.
- Conducts research of open sources such as social media, video feeds and law enforcement databases; determines the reliability factor and consolidates the various intelligence reports, consolidating intelligence reports from other agencies and analyzes the data to prepare and disseminate intelligence reports, hot sheets, data analysis, and written reports on a daily or as needed basis for the department staff and external department staff and agencies.
- Works with various internal department staff and external departments and agencies with mapping, charting, and analysis. Assist with and/or develop the preparation of intelligence briefings.
- Assists in dissemination of information to law enforcement agencies both verbally and in writing. Interacts with law enforcement officers, and other authorized individuals to provide information, exchange data, and assist in coordinating investigations. Assists in oral presentations and briefings to agents, officers, and supervisors regarding findings, case progress, and research results, as well as other presentations on findings, products, or techniques.
- Responds to various short-term analytical requests, such as providing driver’s license photos, criminal histories, providing subject backgrounds, and locating next of kin information.
Education
:
Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or closely related field.
Experience
:
Minimum of one (1) year related experience in compiling, analyzing and interpreting data. Prior experience as a Wilmington Police Department intern in the Sting Center will be be given equivalent experience credit.
Other Requirements
:
Valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Note:
Driving and criminal history check is required. Successful candidate will also be required to complete a post-offer polygraph examination and pre-employment drug screen.
