Job Description
- The Senior Engineer – Plant Control Systems Design is responsible for developing, evaluating, and managing engineering solutions for instrumentation and control systems.
- The role involves applying control theory, mathematical modeling, and simulation techniques to design control systems that meet operational, safety, and performance requirements.
- The engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop reliable, maintainable, and compliant control system solutions for complex industrial environments.
- Identify, develop, evaluate, introduce, and manage engineering solutions for instrumentation and control systems.
- Apply control theory, mathematical modeling, and simulation techniques to design control systems with desired operational behavior.
- Design control logic functionality, feedback control algorithms, sensors, hardware, and software components.
- Prepare system designs for protection systems, safety systems, and plant operational control systems.
- Lead or support engineering design phases including conceptual design, preliminary design, detailed design, and final design.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation including reports, specifications, databases, and tabular lists of system functions, algorithms, set points, equipment characteristics, and configurations.
- Develop diagrams and drawings including functional block diagrams, logic diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and communication network diagrams.
- Develop and analyze dynamic simulation models for system design and validation.
- Select and evaluate instrumentation and control hardware and software platforms.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to meet functional, reliability, and maintainability objectives.
- Perform engineering analysis using techniques such as failure mode and effects analysis and probabilistic risk analysis.
- Support development of procurement packages and supplier requirements for system components and equipment.
- Provide oversight and technical support to suppliers during procurement, integration, and testing phases.
- Develop and review unit, module, system, and integration test plans and reports.
- Participate in factory acceptance testing for control systems.
- Establish effective working relationships with project teams, engineering partners, and suppliers.
- Ensure project deliverables meet quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance within engineering teams.
- Minimum ten years of experience in heavy industries such as nuclear, power, process, marine, oil and gas, military, aerospace, medical, or pharmaceutical sectors.
- Minimum ten years of experience preparing system design requirements, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Minimum ten years of experience developing engineering diagrams including functional block diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and communication network diagrams.
- Experience with physics-based modeling, simulation, and algorithm development.
- Experience with safety-critical instrumentation, control, and monitoring systems engineering.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers or distributed control systems in complex real-time environments.
- Experience in nuclear instrumentation, control, and monitoring systems.
- Experience in regulatory compliance, system certification, and licensing processes.
- Experience supporting plant commissioning, testing, and startup activities.
- Experience working with modern digital engineering collaboration and design tools.
- Professional engineering certification or advanced technical degree.
- Control systems design and analysis.
- Instrumentation and control system engineering.
- Mathematical modeling and simulation.
- Failure mode and effects analysis and reliability analysis.
- Distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers.
- Technical documentation and engineering design tools.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
- Project coordination and technical leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
