Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The School of Nursing within the College Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding faculty member for a Clinical Instructor or Clinical Assistant Professor, 12-month non-tenure track position to serve as the Simulation Learning Center Manager beginning Spring 2026. Clinical Track Faculty may be hired on a contract of up to 5 years that is renewable based on performance.
Clinical track faculty are eligible for promotion to higher clinical track ranks. Appointment to rank is dependent on qualifications relative to the university, college, and school standards.
This is a clinical track faculty position with teaching and management responsibilities primarily in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) Simulation Learning Center (SLC). The interprofessional SLC supports the CHHS at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The SLC is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in Teaching/Learning, Assessment, and Systems Integration. Located in the McNeill Building, it covers 10,000 square feet of learning spaces including skills labs, simulation rooms, debriefing rooms, clinical offices, homecare spaces, and is currently undergoing planning for significant expansion.
The SLC utilizes a wide array of simulators including high and medium fidelity manikins ranging from newborn through adult. In addition, there is space for students to use virtual reality scenarios.
As a clinical track faculty member, the primary responsibility is oversight of all simulation teaching, feedback, and assessment that occurs in the SLC. Instructional work in the SLC averages over 700 hours per semester, bringing over 400 students into the various simulation learning labs. On average, eight courses per semester meet weekly in the SLC.
In addition to teaching, the SLC manager is responsible for daily operations including scheduling, coordinating, and overseeing all activities that occur in this state‑of‑the‑art facility. The manager will ensure adherence to simulation program policies, safety measures, and standards related to accreditation. They will also help create and update necessary policies and procedures guiding the use of the SLC.
This is a 12-month, full‑time position. Evening or weekend shifts may be required. Clinical faculty rank is based on education level, background, and experience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements- A master’s degree in nursing with a minimum of 3 years of management experience at the time of application.
- Knowledge of and experience with healthcare simulation.
- Familiarity with Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) protocols and/or International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) standards.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, with an emphasis on interprofessional education and practice.
- Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator
- Familiarity with scheduling software and managing people
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with AI use in educational and professional settings
- A current RN license in NC or eligibility for licensure in NC
