Afterschool Site Coordinator

Overview

The After school Site Coordinator, under the direction of the Regional Education Director and aligned with the YMCA of Southeastern NC mission, leads the daily operations of the after school program at an assigned school site. Serves as the primary contact for school administrators, faculty, parents, and guardians, and fosters a safe, engaging, and values-driven environment. Requires proven leadership, strong communication skills, and a passion for youth development.

Oversees program delivery, implements curriculum, supports staff, and ensures a high-quality experience for children and families—guided by the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

• Implements curriculum within established guidelines.
• Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
• Supervises children, the classroom, and all activities.
• Performs ongoing observations and evaluations of each child.
• Keeps parents informed of site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
• Conducts parent conferences, maintains positive relationships, and engages parents as volunteers.
• Maintains program site and equipment.
• Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, behavior reports, and CACFP records.
• Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
• Follows and implements Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
• Trains new staff on current YMCA policies and procedures.
• Supervises after school counselors and adjusts schedules to maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios within budget.
• Develops relationships with school and community stakeholders to deepen YMCA and school collaboration.
• Site Coordinators serving 60+ students may assist with lunch monitoring and playground monitoring duties as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Youth Services District Director.

• Two years or more of college preferred, working toward a degree in education or related field.
• At least 21 years of age and/or training significant for the YMCA program.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 30 days of hire.
• Two years’ experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
• Experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
