Position Summary

The Department of Anthropology at UNC Wilmington invites applications for a Lecturer in Cultural Anthropology starting August 2026. This non‑tenure track, nine‑month position carries a teaching load of four courses per semester. The appointment is renewable and contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Deliver four undergraduate courses per semester, including Introduction to Anthropology, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Language and Culture, and relevant upper‑level courses.
  • Develop course materials and assessment methods aligned with departmental priorities.
  • Engage in service such as department meetings, committee participation, and event organization.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Anthropology (or ABD with Ph.D. conferred by August 1, 2026).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience or potential in anthropological theory, ethnographic methods, career‑readiness courses.
  • Ability to teach the specified core courses and upper‑level courses in area of expertise.

  • List of three professional references, including at least one dissertation chair if ABD.
  • For ABD candidates:
    Letter from dissertation chair attesting ability to defend dissertation by the beginning of summer 2026 and to meet terminal degree requirements by August 1, 2026.
