Position Overview
The Center for Academic Advising at the University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks a temporary Academic Advisor to provide academic advising and support during the incoming academic year. This assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Temporary assignments cannot exceed 11 consecutive months without a 31‑day break from employment. Temporary employees are subject to Affordable Care Act guidelines.

Provide academic advising and support to first‑year, transfer, military and pre‑professional students. Assist in short‑term and long‑term academic program planning and career goal clarification. Provide accurate academic policy and curricular information.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements- Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree with 18 hours of discipline‑focused master’s level coursework
- Experience in a university/college setting
- Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, problem‑solving, effective organizational skills, and detail orientation
- Must exhibit cultural competence and possess a broad understanding of student academic, developmental, and social needs
- Academic Advising experience preferred
- Working knowledge of student development theory, advising strategies, and best practices to support student success initiatives in a university/college environment
