Overview
The Honors College is seeking temporary/part-time faculty for Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and Spring 2026 with the ability to teach Honors University Studies courses.
Honors College faculty typically teach only one course a semester, and the College rotates through faculty to diversify offerings. The academic year includes:
- Summer 2025
- Fall 2025
- Spring 2026
The Honors College courses are designed as seminars that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, faculty-student interaction, and experiential learning and provide a context around the students' specific majors. Honors seminars can be taught as either 1- or 3-credit courses.
ResponsibilitiesTeach Honors University Studies courses during the specified semesters. Courses include the following options:
- HON 110 (3 credits):
First-Year Seminar focused on an interdisciplinary topic designed to introduce all freshman honors students to the college experience by direct involvement in research, service, and leadership activities. - HON 210/211/212 (3 credits):
Interdisciplinary Seminar offering an in-depth investigation of a special topic using the approaches of several disciplines. - HON 120/121 (1 credit):
Enrichment Seminar encouraging learning beyond the classroom through a more "hands‑on," direct experience approach (field work, travel, or individual projects). - HON 191 (1 credit):
Introduction to Research and Discovery – an overview of research procedures in discipline areas, including literature searches and data collection, emphasizing applied learning and development of basic skills appropriate to the discipline. - HON 399 (1 credit):
Thesis Preparation Course designed as a workshop to help students prepare for their thesis experience, understand the value of undergraduate research, and develop a full‑fledged proposal of a research project.
Master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Those with equivalent verifiable professional experience, certifications, and licensures in the discipline may also be considered.
Special Instructions to ApplicantsPrior to the official appointment to the university, the candidate(s) selected for hire must be able to demonstrate eligibility to teach assigned courses by successfully meeting the credentialing requirements based on official transcripts and other documentation as required. This is a temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave.
Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.
