Transportation Construction Inspector (Entry-Level)

HDR is seeking an entry-level Construction Inspector to join our North Carolina Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team. In this role you will perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge construction projects utilizing NCDOT policies and procedures. Work will include materials testing, construction observation, and reporting. The successful candidate will be trained to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and be able to identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents as well as enforce contract documents.

• Perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge projects.
• Conduct materials testing, construction observation, and reporting.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Identify discrepancies or conflicts within contract documents and enforce contract requirements.
• Travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections as required.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Successfully passing drug‑screening procedures prior to hire; random and cause drug and alcohol testing thereafter.
• Active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture is a must.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong written and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Able to travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections.
• Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.
• NCDOT experience.
• Tech school degree.
• Local candidates are preferred.
