What We Need

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Next Generation Structures team within the Hardware Engineering organization. In this role, you will provide technical expertise across the full product lifecycle, from early concept definition through commercialization, shaping the mechanical architecture, and guiding critical decisions for our next‑generation automated systems. Your knowledge in mechanical and structural systems will be pivotal in developing reliable, scalable, and highly optimized solutions that deliver step‑change improvements in performance and transform how our systems operate.

You will influence strategy, guide cross‑functional engineering efforts, and elevate technical standards across the organization while solving some of the most complex challenges in our portfolio.

What We Do

The Next Generation Structures Team is part of our Hardware Org and is a fast‑growing team that specializes in innovation and new product development from concepts to commercialization. The products in focus are of strategic importance to the business.

What You’ll Do
  • Define the mechanical architecture and lead the design and development of complex structural and electromechanical systems for mobile robots.
  • Help drive advanced analysis efforts, including high-fidelity FEA, tolerance analysis, and system‑level optimization, to ensure performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Partner closely with cross‑functional leaders across electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, and quality to guide system integration and influence product strategy.
  • Identify critical technical challenges, develop scalable solutions, and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the mechanical organization.
  • Communicate complex technical decisions and trade‑offs to both technical and executive audiences with clarity and influence.
  • Hands‑on prototyping, testing, validation, and iteration to ensure designs meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Own and contribute to the creation of detailed drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks, BOMs, and ECOs, and set standards for documentation of quality across the team.
  • Guide engineers at multiple levels, providing technical direction, design reviews, and long‑term skill development.
  • Travel up to 20 %.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience, including substantial ownership of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Deep expertise in mechanical design principles, robotics hardware, and electromechanical integration.
  • Expert‑level proficiency in CAD (Solid Works preferred) and advanced experience with FEA tools such as Solid Works Simulation or Ansys.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect systems and select motors, sensors, actuators, and structural components for performance and reliability.
  • Extensive experience with manufacturing processes including machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, and proto‑to‑production transitions.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving skills with a proven ability to make high‑impact technical decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills with experience influencing across cross‑functional teams.
  • Passion for robotics, automation, and building high‑performance hardware systems.
  • Experience in industrial robotics, automation, or material handling (preferred).
  • Advanced experience with PLM systems and DFMA principles (preferred).
Our environment
  • Up to 20 % of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed bi‑weekly.
