Harris Space Superiority and Imaging Division in Wilmington, MA is an industry leader in the design and production of space‑based optical telescopes for small satellites. This business has produced and continues to produce optical systems for many customers in both the commercial and military markets, including NASA. One such NASA program supported by this business was New Horizons; the division designed and built the telescope that captured the first close‑up pictures of Pluto.
The Production Planning organization is looking for an individual who can effectively bridge gaps and solve operational problems to meet customer commitments. In this position, the candidate will coordinate with several internal departments to create and maintain an accurate manufacturing execution plan and help ensure that the manufacturing team receives what they need when they need it. The role involves managing several internal suppliers and coordinating with internal customers to understand requirements, limitations, and problems associated with the manufacturing phase of a development program.
It is a fast‑paced, constantly changing, and challenging role.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing execution schedules throughout the planning and execution phases of the manufacturing process.
- Coordinate with internal suppliers, such as Material Management and Design Engineering, to ensure material and labor are available to meet internal and external customer commitments.
- Prioritize day‑to‑day activities of the manufacturing and material flow processes, measure success and failure against the plan, and communicate status to program and management.
- Develop unique solutions to manufacturing problems by working closely with other Operations functions including Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and technical personnel on other programs.
- Coordinate with manufacturing shared services to manage internal value‑add/work‑in‑process parts.
- Coordinate with internal suppliers to ensure build documentation meets program and quality requirements.
- Support timely analysis and implementation of Engineering Change Orders.
- Utilize ERP data to identify potential schedule and/or data integrity problems along with metric‑based performance.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance.
- Knowledge of inventory, planning, supply chain, and configuration management.
- APICS, Lean, and Six Sigma training.
- Experience with ERP implementations and/or Cincom Control and Agile/PDM systems.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment as an ops manager, production planner, or manufacturing engineer.
- Possess strong analytical, time‑management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi‑task and communicate cross‑functionally.
