Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.

Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Criminal Division seeks a Deputy Attorney General to serve as Assistant Unit Head (AUH) for the New Castle County Felony Trial Unit in New Castle County.

Essential Functions
  • Serve with two other AUHs in managing the New Castle County Felony Trial Unit, which consists of 15 Deputy Attorneys General, 6 Legal Assistants, and 6 Legal Administrative Specialists.
  • Oversee the unit’s prosecution of all felonies that occur in New Castle County except for homicides, sex offenses, and those related to domestic violence.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with police agencies, the court, and the defense bar.
  • Provide mentoring and training for Deputy Attorneys General and administrative staff while overseeing cases and operations within the Unit and conducting other managerial tasks as needed.
  • Observe Deputy Attorneys General in trial and during other court proceedings to provide feedback and assist if issues arise.
  • Manage own caseload and bring other Deputy Attorneys General to try cases that proceed to trial.
Job Requirements
  • Leverage strong management skills to guide staff and engage Deputy Attorneys General in trainings.
  • Demonstrate high proficiency in criminal prosecution, evaluating cases, determining resolutions, and anticipating legal issues.
  • Research accurately and effectively to support case strategy.
  • Hold Delaware Bar membership.

Conditions of Hire

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
