Nemours is seeking an ED Tech to join our staff in Wilmington, DE. This position is responsible for assisting with general activities in the Emergency Department and supporting the healthcare team with patient care activities under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse.

Position Responsibilities
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned by the employee’s supervisor.
  • Continuously assess patients according to the pediatric assessment triangle, noting changes in condition and recognizing any immediate life threats.
  • Assist the Rapid Assessment nurse with rapid patient assessment (vital signs, cleaning and dressing wounds, POCT, administering medications or interventions).
  • Extract patients from vehicles (maintaining C-spine, splinting fractures, and removing from car) when they arrive to the ED via private auto.
  • Room patients in the Emergency Department according to acuity and availability, after discussion with the Flow Supervisor.
  • Report and document all changes and complications in flow to Supervisor.
  • After rooming, assess patients for need of specific monitoring (cardiac monitors and/or pulse oximetry).
  • Document all intake and output.
  • Maintain communication with RN for vital signs outside normal limits or any changes in patient status.
  • Maintain accurate vitals based on patients’ acuity/severity (Q15, Q30, Q45, Q1hr, Q2hr, Q4hr).
  • Assist healthcare team with procedures such as lumbar puncture, IV catheter insertion, laceration repairs, suctioning, urinary catheterization, POCT, and other items as necessary.
  • Perform ECGs, nasal washes, flu testing, visual acuity, phlebotomy, including stat phlebotomy lab testing (bilirubin test, newborn screen test for outpatients during weekend hours).
  • Perform POCT for assigned patients: urinalysis, rapid strep test, gastro/hemoccult, HCG test, glucose test.
  • Transport patients to inpatient units, radiology, MRI, operating room, ECG, ultrasound, PICU, NICU, and multiple clinics (monitoring patients on oxygen and pulse oximetry during transports).
  • Respond to “Stat Responses” in the Emergency Department.
  • Initiate and continue CPR for patients in cardiac arrest.
  • Respond to all “Code Blues” on the first and ground floor with stretcher, EMS bag, AED, and be prepared to begin resuscitation on scene.
  • Function in trauma codes and alerts (remove patient clothes, apply cardiac leads, pulse oximetry, hold C-spine stabilization, acquire vital signs, assist with patient rolling, CPC, re-stock room and trauma supplies).
  • Apply cast shoe, non-articulating boot, knee immobilizer, slings, c-collars, Miami J collar, trauma collar, wrist splints.
  • Fit and teach crutches.
  • Assist orthopedic residents with fracture reductions during conscious sedation, splinting, and casting.
  • Stock supplies and maintain equipment within the Emergency Department.
  • Stock supplies and linens for EMS.
  • Maintain assigned zone’s par stock, linens, and IV trays.
  • Complete task cards.
  • Sign off stat response stretcher to ensure it is appropriate and functioning.
  • Sit in 1:1 with patients presenting psychiatric problems (visual assessment every 5 minutes).
Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma.
  • Specialized training (1 year of training beyond high school).
  • American Heart Association BLS required upon hire.
  • EMT certification.
  • PEARS certification (obtained upon hire).
  • Minimum of 6 months experience.
