Position Summary

Health Technician – Telemetry, located in the VA Medical Center's (MC) Patient Care Service Line (PCS). The incumbent provides continuous cardiac surveillance, interpretation and reporting of monitor and telemetry tracings of patients within PCS.

Pay Range

Base pay: $49,541.00/yr – $65,047.00/yr

Qualifications
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑05 grade level, with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) necessary to perform the duties of this position.
  • Experience may include assisting an RN with patient care, direct patient observation, patient transfer, ambulation, answering call lights, and measuring and recording vital signs.
  • No educational substitution for the GS‑06 level; volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) counts as qualifying experience.
  • Preferred experience:

    at least 2 years telemetry, tele‑certification, acute‑care experience, and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; flexibility and adaptability to a fast‑paced telemetry unit.
Duties
  • Continuous monitoring and analysis of cardiac rate, rhythm, and conduction patterns on telemetry patients.
  • Detect abnormal or changing rhythms, document findings, manage alarm conditions, and set alarm limits per policy.
  • Admit and discharge patients in the computer arrhythmia system; document baseline rhythm strips.
  • Communicate with nursing staff regarding patient EKG rhythms and complete hand‑off communication to the on‑coming medical team.
  • Answer call lights and, if unable to assist independently, communicate patient needs to the assigned RN or Charge Nurse.
  • Measure and record vital signs in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
  • Clean reusable medical equipment, restock supplies, and manage specialty carts and utility rooms.
  • Work 40 hours per week with alternating holidays, every other weekend, and various shifts depending on operational needs.
  • Physical requirements:

    walking, bending, standing, lifting, handling equipment, and maintaining proper body mechanics.
