Job Title:
Test Technician Job Description
We are seeking highly capable Technicians to serve as the first line of defense for an early-stage robotic system. This role requires close monitoring, data capture, troubleshooting, and execution of defined test plans. Each testing site will be staffed by two technicians: an Operator who drives and maneuvers the robot via a tablet/dashboard, and a Data Technician who collects test results, evaluates package outcomes, and documents system behavior.
Both technicians share responsibilities for safety, fault recovery, and communication with the engineering team. This is a hands‑on role supporting new technology in an active operational environment.
Operate a large robotic system using a tablet interface and dashboard controls.
Follow structured test plans developed by the engineering team.
Perform step‑by‑step tasks from on‑device checklists.
Move the robot safely, monitor surroundings, and prevent collisions or equipment damage.
Execute commands, reset key frames, and recover from basic system faults.
Inspect packages for damage, drops, or abnormalities.
Capture photos, videos, and notes related to test outcomes.
Log results into spreadsheets, auditing tools, or other data systems.
Track system performance metrics and anomalies throughout each test cycle.
Perform first‑level troubleshooting using on‑device guidance.
Identify environmental blockers such as uneven trailer floors, protruding screws, or obstructions.
Collaborate with RMEs for on‑site mechanical fixes when needed.
Escalate more advanced control‑system or electrical issues to engineering.
Work directly with technicians and engineers from the team to resolve complex problems.
Replace minor wear components using basic hand tools.
Work alongside local RME teams for larger maintenance or trailer adjustments.
Ensure the robot is reset, safe, and operational after fault events.
Serve as on‑site eyes and ears for the engineering team.
Communicate findings, faults, patterns, and environmental variables.
Participate in remote troubleshooting with engineering partners.
Coordinate with other test locations and technicians as testing progresses.
Technical aptitude with robotics, automation, machinery, industrial equipment, or similar fields.
Ability to learn new technology quickly with hands‑on training.
Comfort navigating dashboards, tablets, and computer‑based interfaces.
Experience performing structured tests, audits, procedural checklists.
Strong observational skills for identifying anomalies, damage, or environmental hazards.
Basic mechanical skills such as tightening fasteners and replacing minor components.
Ability to communicate clearly with engineers and follow detailed instructions.
Willingness to rotate across multiple sites for extended periods (2–3 months per location).
Skills & Qualifications
Prior work in fulfillment, warehousing, robotics, or manufacturing environments.
Previous experience with onsite equipment testing or pilot programs.
Familiarity with troubleshooting early‑stage technology.
This role is based in an active fulfillment center, involving hands‑on work with a large prototype robotic system. It requires collaboration with engineers, site RMEs, and cross‑functional teams, with transitions between multiple U.S. sites as testing progresses.
