Introduction

The Brandywine Zoo is managed by Delaware State Parks with the support of the Delaware Zoological Society. This quaint facility is home to a variety of species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. At Brandywine Zoo, visitors return again and again to see our animals in natural settings.

Summary Statement

A seasonal Camp Position is available at Brandywine Zoo which includes the following:

Seasonal Zoo Camp Counselor ($16.00) – Will be working with our full time education staff and Zoo Camp Interns to develop and implement themed camp lesson plans, materials, and evaluation tools for our camp programs.

Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Work is performed under various weather conditions.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and lead daily activities for summer camps.
  • Ensure a fun, educational and safe environment for children.
  • Develop and create hands‑on activities, games and crafts.
  • Safely handle and present wild/exotic animals.
  • Follow guidelines as outlined in our Zoo Camp Handbook for medical situations, behaviour problems, and other camper situations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Camp Counselor
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One year experience with a camp program for children or young adults.
  • Knowledge of animals, zoos, wildlife conservation, zoology, biology or other natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

    This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non‑pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
