Position: FT EWD Instructor - AHS and HSE-TFT

DEFINITION

To provide classroom instruction for Adult High School (AHS) and High School Equivalency (HSE) programs and offer instructional support for part‑time faculty in these department programs. Instruction includes lecture, demonstration, laboratory and hands on exercises, handouts, responding to questions, testing, and academic advising. Provide instruction in all four areas of the GED exam. Must be familiar with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

Instructors also assist students in developing college preparatory skills and employability skills.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
  • Receives primary supervision from the Director of ABE/HSE & Special Programs
  • May exercise limited functional and technical supervision over work‑study student assistants.
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions
  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop, and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons.
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores.
  • Act as an academic advisor and counselor to students.
  • Facilitate student learning and persistence in AHS and HSE programs by providing individualized instruction and maintaining a weekly session of walk‑in tutoring hours.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance and other records according to program needs or accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including tracking progress and qualifications for graduation or successful completion of a program of study.
  • Provide peer mentoring for AHS and HSE instructors and assist in developing and offering training and professional development workshops for Academic & Career Readiness part‑time faculty.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to the required teaching areas.
  • Participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and change.

Assist Academic & Career Readiness staff team with CFCC graduation ceremony preparations and represent the department at the ceremony.

  • Attend department staff meetings and participate in staff development and training as needed.
  • Participate on college committees and other institutional activities.
  • Fill in as a substitute instructor as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of
  • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Ability To
  • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain effective audio‑visual discrimination and perception needed for:
  • Making observations
  • Reading and writing
  • Communicating with others
  • Operating assigned equipment
  • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:

  • Operating and maintaining assigned equipment
  • Maintain mental capacity, which allows the capability of:
