DEFINITION

To provide in-person and blended classroom instruction through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and assessment for craft brewing courses.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
  • Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from Coordinator, Continuing Education-Workforce Development Training
  • May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff
  • Exercises no supervision
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide interactive instruction to students
  • Coordinate class tours and other opportunities with local breweries
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule hands‑on lab activities
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance lessons
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores
  • Provide demonstrations; develop assignments to provide quality hands‑on experience
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines
Other Important Functions
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of
  • Classroom instructional techniques, learning management systems, and procedures
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
  • Current trends, research and development in brewing
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration
  • Processes and procedures relevant to commercial and small batch craft brewing
Ability To
  • Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum Education /Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Internship, apprenticeship, or workforce training at a commercial brewery or under an experienced brewer
Minimum Experience
  • 3+ years experience in professional brewing production
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills
  • Five years of full-time experience in a brewery
  • Teaching experience at the college level
  • Industry certification
  • Associate degree in Brewing, Distillation, and Fermentation, Education, or related field
