DEFINITION
To provide classroom instruction to students enrolled in the Continuing Education Flooring Installation course.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED- Receives general supervision from the Director of Pender County
- Exercises no supervision
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions- Teach program-specific content in-person and online using established curriculum.
- Prepare materials needed for course instruction, labs, and testing.
- Create a focused and engaged learning environment.
- Encourage student performance and growth of skills.
- Support the academic success of the students.
- Prepare students for a career in the floor-covering industry.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with students, faculty, and staff.
- Relate instruction and material course objectives to real-world, industry-specific examples.
- Submit grades, attendance, reports, and records on time.
- Participate in professional development.
- Consistently conduct industry visits to establish key relationships.
- Stay abreast of manufacturing trends and training needs.
- Ensure safety and security requirements are adhered to in training areas.
- Maintain program certification requirements, as appropriate.
- Utilize customer relation management software to organize and manage activity, contacts, and files, as well as oversee data collection and program management processes.
- Plan, conduct, and serve as a team member.
- Attend conferences, annual meetings, etc., on behalf of the technical college when needed.
- Reliable, diplomatic, and exceptional organizational and project management skills.
- Skilled in making oral presentations to public and private groups.
- Proficient in administering surveys to evaluate progress.
- Self-motivated, determined, and team oriented.
- Works well without direct supervision.
- Open and receptive to constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and foster a positive team environment.
- Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Able to communicate and work with diverse populations in a wide variety of settings.
- Proficient in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Expertise in the floor installation field including carpet, hardwood, tile and resilient flooring.

- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, recognizing and responding to questions, operating assigned equipment.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities that may include the following: sitting and standing for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment – overhead projector, computer, bending, stooping, climbing or lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain mental capacity that allows the capability of: making sound decisions, answering questions, demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Minimum Education /Training
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum ExperienceAt least 3 years experience in flooring installation
