DEFINITION
To provide classroom and/or online instruction to students using multiple teaching strategies that include lectures, classroom demonstrations, and laboratory experiments. Will perform accurate assessment of student learning. Subject matter could include basic wet laboratory techniques, spectroscopy, chromatography, or other related fields.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED- Receives general supervision from the Chemical Technology Program Director
- Exercises no supervision
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare and execute lectures, activities, and laboratory instruction for seated and/or online courses.
- Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons.
- Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands‑on experience as appropriate.
- Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance. Grade and record individual scores.
- Grade and return assignments and post grades in a prompt manner.
- Provide prompt and appropriate professional correspondence to students and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance. Maintain other records as required.
- Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lessons, as needed.
- Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction.
- Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances (such as blood borne pathogens) and chemical waste.
- Demonstrate industry involvement (network with local employers to align class curriculum with the needs of local employers)
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures.
- Safety and OSHA requirements for general personal protection and chemical usage.
- Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures.
- Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.
- Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
Instrumentation and technology used in a laboratory environment.
- Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative‑working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain effective audio‑visual discrimination and perception needed for:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum Education /Training- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field from a regionally accredited college or university
- One to Two years of some related industry and/or academic experience in chemistry, manufacturing, laboratory sciences, or related fields.
- A Master’s Degree in Chemistry or 18 graduate hours in chemistry
- Prior teaching experience at post‑secondary level
- This position REQUIRES UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS AND/OR TRAINING CERTIFICATIONS be submitted in addition to the application. Please have these documents ready to upload when applying.
- Candidates are required to submit OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS for all degrees obtained prior to their first day of work or hire date. If highest level of education is High School diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required.
- Candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master’s degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
- To claim veterans’ preference, all eligible persons shall submit a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, to Human Resources during the application process. Human Resources will verify eligibility.
