Definition
To provide classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction to Associate Degree and/or Practical Nursing students.
Supervision Received and Exercised- Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the Coordinator of Associate Degree Nursing
- May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff
- May exercise functional and technical supervision over instructional assistants
- May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff
- May exercise functional and technical supervision over instructional assistants
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conducts clinical laboratory so as to meet program/course/clinical outcomes; assists the Course Coordinator/team member in scheduling clinical activities as indicated.
- Apprises unit personnel of student/client assignments.
- Prepares for clinical experience as evidenced by familiarity with unit policies, clients and their needs, student clinical outcomes, and students.
- Provides orientation, assistance, and guidance to students during the clinical experience on the unit.
- Notifies specified person (e.g., Course Coordinator, team member, Department Chair) of illness, emergency, or anticipated absence as early as such absence is known.
- Remains with assigned students throughout the entire clinical experience, including hospital in-service programs, unless prior arrangements have been made with the Coordinator or team member.
- Conducts pre- and post-conference with students according to course/clinical outcomes.
- Utilizes approved assessment forms and clinical evaluation criteria/tools according to instructions given to provide continuity and consistency for the student.
- Completes evaluation tools for each student and schedules individual conferences at least mid-semester and at the end of each semester; evaluates students fairly on the basis of program criteria; shares ongoing evaluation with students and Coordinator/team member timely and constructively
- Makes suggestions to Course Coordinator regarding clinical experiences, outcomes, evaluation process, and other areas of interest and concern.
- Remains current in clinical and professional expertise through clinical practice, attendance at workshops/classes, and other activities.
- Provide classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction to students.
- Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom and clinical activities; develop and prepare supplemental materials
- Develop and prepare tests and other tools to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores.
- Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
- Participate in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation and change; attend faculty meetings as required.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs or accreditation requirements.
- Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines
- Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various text books and select books to be used for future classes.
- Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate.
- Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progression and qualifications for graduation (required activity for all nursing faculty).
- Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances such as blood borne pathogens; continually undergo training and train students in such procedures (required for all nursing faculty).
- Demonstrate community involvement (required for all ADN nursing faculty).
