Overview
The Wilmington VAMC in Wilmington, DE is recruiting for a Hospitalist to serve as Chief Hospitalist. The position is accountable to the Chief of Medicine Services for assuring the most effective delivery of inpatient medical care while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.
Responsibilities- The Hospitalist Physician will provide expert treatment to patients in inpatient settings, including patients on the Med-Surg wards and Intensive Care Unit.
- Provide feedback and patient education to patients and families and demonstrate excellence in all facets of patient care that meets or exceeds compliance standards.
- Provide evaluations for other services including the CLC (long-term care unit) and the emergency department (ED); perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of the Medicine Service.
- Provide compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient care for promotion of health and treatment of critical illnesses.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team through strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Adhere to stated policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes (e.g., admission H&Ps, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries).
- Coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with other inpatient and outpatient health care providers involved in patient care.
- Administrative Duties (20%):
Ensure operations and compliance with Veterans Health Administration guidelines for the Hospitalist Section of the Medical Service; provide leadership as the Section Chief of the Hospitalist Section. - Manage schedules of employees within the hospital section; ensure consistent, up-to-date call schedule coverage and posting; hold at least monthly section meetings; allocate resources to ensure adequate coverage and availability of clinical programs; direct and develop quality improvement (QI) processes and projects.
- Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings; work with facility leadership on evaluations and training requirements for assigned staff.
- Remain privileged in Internal/Hospitalist Medicine; privileges and procedures approved by the Professional Standards Board.
- Conduct and perform daily patient care rounding while supervising medical staff duties.
- Review EHRs and determine care plans for hospitalized patients, transferring patients, and discharging patients.
- Run RRTs and Code Blues.
- Collaborate directly with other hospital sections on patient care.
Basic Requirements
:
- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. - Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Residency training: approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- For academic appointments, board certification may be required for faculty status.
- Approved residencies include: ACGME-accredited programs, AOA-accredited programs, or other residencies with five years of verified practice in the United States as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Physicians enrolled in ACGME/AOA residencies may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs); PRPs must be fully licensed and may be appointed intermittently or on a fee basis and are not independent practitioners.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience:
