Overview
The Staff Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities supporting multiple locations and/or properties. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with experience handling high transaction volumes, intercompany activity, and location-based financial reporting. The ideal candidate has worked in environments such as property management, restaurants, retail, or construction and is comfortable managing multiple entities simultaneously.
Responsibilities- Maintain general ledger accounting for multiple properties and/or operating locations
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and month-end close activities
- Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and intercompany transactions
- Review and code invoices; assist with accounts payable and expense allocations by location
- Support accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and cash application as needed
- Track and allocate common area maintenance (CAM), operating expenses, or shared costs
- Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation, and lease accounting (where applicable)
- Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analyses by property/location
- Ensure accurate cost allocation across departments, projects, or locations
- Assist with audits, tax filings, and internal control compliance
- Collaborate with operations, property managers, and field leadership to resolve accounting issues
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with GAAP and company policies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in multi-location environments
- (property management, restaurants, retail, construction, or similar industries)
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close
- Experience handling multiple entities or locations simultaneously
- Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, Quick Books, Net Suite, Sage, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with property accounting, CAM reconciliations, or job costing
- Exposure to lease accounting or construction-in-progress (CIP) accounting
- Experience supporting audits and financial reporting deadlines
