ABOUT THE JOB:
Rate of Pay: $110,000 $ 115,000 annually (commensurate with experience, education, skills, and market trends; subject to future adjustments)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday Friday (onsite/in-person)
Location: Willowbrook, IL (with weekly travel to local job sites, approx. 10%)
Additional Compensation: Potential discretionary bonuses, car allowance, or other incentives
JOB SUMMARY:
The Project Controls Specialist is a key member of the project controls department, supporting project management in establishing and maintaining project controls functions to ensure construction projects are delivered without accidents or incidents, within budget, on schedule, and within scope. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining schedules for electrical and gas construction projects, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with client contract terms.
The position reports to the Project Controls Manager and works closely with project leads from all divisions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Project Controls Manager in implementing project controls guidelines, processes, practices, and performance reporting
Build bid schedules from plans and specifications
Create, review, progress, monitor, analyze, and resolve construction schedules with project managers and field supervisors
Develop work breakdown structures, review cost/resource loading, and schedule activities using critical path method
Monitor project progress, costs, and performance metrics, providing timely and accurate reporting
Update schedules to reflect actual progress, delays, labor hours, and associated costs
Perform earned value schedule analysis and alert management to potential schedule risks
Provide schedule data to support performance analysis and change management processes
Conduct impact analysis for change orders
Identify and help resolve project risks, cost, or schedule discrepancies
Contribute to project controls training and mentoring initiatives
Work on multiple projects while managing deadlines and priorities
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, or related discipline preferred; or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years of scheduling experience in a construction environment preferred
Knowledge of construction processes and project control fundamentals
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Primavera P6; familiarity with PENTA software preferred
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills
Ability to read construction drawings and work with various contract types (Lump Sum, Time & Materials, Unit Price, G.M.P., hybrid)
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in fast-paced environments
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily office-based with occasional field visits
Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions
Noise level is typically low to medium
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally
