Position: Transportation Supervisor

Department: Transportation

Reports to: Transportation Director

FLSA Status: Exempt – Administrative Act 93 Group

Schedule: 12 Months; 225 Day Work Year

Summary

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Transportation Director in organizing, administering and supervising the school district transportation system and transportation personnel in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other appropriate duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise daily operation of the Transportation Department in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Oversee and coordinate the safe operation, maintenance, inspection and repair of district fleet vehicles.
  • Prepare and assign daily route assignments.
  • Coordinate employee training, conduct MVR background checks and ensure credential validity of employees.
  • Track and report all trip hours and costs. Create estimates and invoices for field trips. Track employee work hours, overtime costs and absenteeism. Create weekly trip schedule assignments.
  • Oversee departmental purchasing, place orders for parts and services. Enter all purchase orders while ensuring the department operates within the assigned budget.
  • Troubleshoot parental complaints and act as a liaison between district and out-of-district schools, parents, students and employees. Initiate corrective action.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents and report accordingly. Obtain all necessary paperwork for insurance claims (accident and police reports, etc.).
  • Recommend and establish bus stops and routes that will ensure the safety of the students.
  • Participate in training sessions as needed to stay current with transportation issues that impact that district.
  • Maintain a working relationship with the unions and shop stewards under which each employee is classified. Maintain the current contract parameters ensuring compliance.
  • When assigned, serves as the point of contact for the Transportation Department after normal working hours and on weekends.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Provides strategic leadership in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion ensuring the school's practices are in concert with the district mission and vision and by supporting and developing student
    leadership in matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Minimum three years related experience preferably in a school district setting;
  • Current and Valid Driver's license (CDL with S and P Endorsements preferred) as well as ability and experience driving at minimum at 9 passenger van;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of computer software programs including but not limited to database programs, routing, word and spreadsheet programs;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
  • Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
