Indirect Supervision:
This position may work with all employees at all levels across the organization and may interact with members. Professionalism is required at all times.
To provide effective and efficient operations, maintenance and construction activities on energized or de-energized lines with or without supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Install, maintain, repair, and replace electric distribution lines, transformers, meters, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot and restore service interruptions and power outages promptly and safely.
- Perform switching, voltage/load surveys, and systems adjustments to ensure reliable and compliant operations.
- Maintain tools, vehicles, equipment, and inventory; follow all safety procedures and complete required training.
- Must live within a 20 minute range of the office/shop location assigned by MWEC as determined by Google Maps.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge:
- Construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electric distribution systems and associated equipment.
- REA construction specifications and applicable National Electric Safety Code (NESC) standards.
- Electric distribution system materials, installation, repair, and maintenance practices.
- First AID and CPR procedures.
- Skills
- Proficient in pole climbing, aerial bucket operations, and use of line construction tools and equipment.
- Skilled in performing energized and de-energized line work safety and effectively.
- Abilities
- Ability to safely work with energized conductors of all voltages.
- Ability to apple safety standards, technical knowledge, and proper work practices in field operations.
- Experience:
- Experience as a Lineworker preferred
- Two (2) years of experience in power line construction and maintenance may be substituted for vocational/technical education.
- Education and
Certifications:- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduation from vocational/technical school in power line studies is required.
- Certification as a Journey Lineworker thought the US Department of Labor may be substituted for the Apprentice Linework training program.
- Driving is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no restrictions, or obtain one within 90 days of employment, meet company driving standards, and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
- This position requires the ability to perform heavy physical work, exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and performing overhead reaching and lifting. This position involves frequent standing, climbing, crawling, bending, pulling, reaching, and working at heights exceeding 100 feet. The employee must be able to safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery, communicate clearly, and possess the ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, analyze information, and complete required documentation.
- This position requires outside work under various weather conditions, including rain, high winds, blowing snow, ice, freezing rain, and sudden weather changes, with frequent exposure to temperatures ranging from
-20°F (or lower with wind chill) to over 100°F. Employee are subject to irregular hours, overtime, emergency callouts, storm restoration assignments, and must be available to work outside normal office hours.
