Summary Of WorkThe individual will be located in the Williston district office and assist with fisheries management activities in Northwest North Dakota. Responsibilities include supporting the Western District Fisheries Supervisor in maintaining a complete and accurate biological database by conducting fish population surveys and other biological and limnological surveys. Provide field assistance to the Missouri River System fisheries crew on Upper Lake Sakakawea and the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers.
Assist with trapping, transporting, and spawning of various fish species. Maintain and repair district equipment (boats, motors, trailers, nets, and other shop and field equipment) to ensure it is in safe working condition. Assist with paddle fish population activities that support a recreational fishery in North Dakota and Montana. Work with other department staff on building and grounds maintenance as needed.
Participate in special projects as assigned, including access development and habitat projects. Occasionally present information at professional and public meetings and respond to public information requests.
Applicants must have either: (a) an Associate's Degree in fish and wildlife management, biology/zoology, or a closely related degree with at least 2 years (24 months) of field experience with a natural resource agency, or (b) a Bachelor's degree in one of the aforementioned fields.
The position requires knowledge of fisheries management principles and fish sampling methods. Applicants must be able to maintain and repair equipment used for fisheries sampling and district work. Strong communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to interact professionally with user groups and the public are required. Must be able to work extended hours and travel. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, often in inclement weather, including extremely cold water and occasional night work. Computer skills sufficient to perform duties are required. A valid North Dakota Driver's License or the ability to obtain one is required.

- Experience towing and operating boats
- Equipment maintenance experience (e.g., motors, small engines, trailers, etc.)
- Ability to swim

- Experience spawning fish
